Setting Intentions: January 2018
Hope you are getting back into the swing of things post-holidays. I'm not going to lie, it's been a little challenging getting back into my normal routine. But like most people in January, I'm thankful for getting back into my healthy routine with eats and my workouts. Not to be cliché, but I definitely have some goals for myself for the month/year.
I'm trying to take my "new years resolution" a little differently. I want to focus on things month by month. For me, putting focus on a shorter time frames is much easier to handle. I can wrap my head around THIS month, and I don't even have to think about February.
For my nutrition goal, I'm focusing on eliminating gluten and dairy, and drinking minimal alcohol. I'm defining "minimal alcohol" to be drinking just once a week, and making sure to drink water in between each drink!
Like most people, I've attempted the #JanuaryWhole30 during 2016 and 2017. Even though I never completed these Whole30's "by the book" aka, they turned into #whole21 and #wholealmost30, I still feel like I learned valuable information about what foods make me feel great, and what foods cause more bloating and just "blah" feelings.
Sadly, I've come to the realization that both gluten and dairy give me major bloating and just irritate my GI tract more than I would like. Therefore, I'm really focusing on eliminating both of those items during this month. This will be a first for me. I've never completely eliminated both gluten and dairy for a substantial period of time. I've definitely tried to minimize my intake over time, but I've never cut it out completely. 17 days in, I'm really enjoying how I am feeling so far.
And while this might seem extreme for some people, it's really not so bad for me. I can still eat out, I can still have tacos, and the majority of what I was already making at home were both gluten and dairy free. Yes, pizza is a hard one, but I've already made a gluten and dairy free pizza that I'm excited to share soon!
My other "goal" of this month? To blog!!! I loved blogging during my time in graduate school, and I have found it hard to stay consistent with it during my "adult" work life. But here I am, recommitting to the process and sharing things I find joy in. While also promoting a healthy and delicious lifestyle through food!! #nomnom
So here is my intentions for January 2018. One month at a time.
- Blog! Ideally 4-5x/month
- No Gluten
- No Dairy
- Alcohol x1 day/week
- Workout 3-4x/week + 1 day/week yoga
