Blood Orange Margarita

Blood Orange Margarita

Happy National Margarita Day!

Did you think I would actually miss celebrating this wonderful day of the year?!? If you know me even a little bit, you should know I love a good margarita. A few of my birthday parties have had a margarita theme, complete with a bar featuring three different types of tequila cocktails. It is my all time favorite alcoholic drink.

BUT I do not do that sugar-water nonsense you get at most generic Mexican restaurants. I want a true classic margarita that incorporates very minimal ingredients, fresh lime juice, and just a touch of sweetness.

I'm sharing that recipe with you today in my favorite margarita "flavor." Blood Orange. Not only does it provide the most beautiful color, it is very smooth and not quite as tart as the traditional lime margarita.

Blood Orange Margarita

  • 1.5 oz blanco tequila
  • 0.5 oz orange liqueur
  • 1 oz lime juice (juice from 2 limes)
  • 1 oz blood orange juice (juice from 1 small blood orange)
  • 1 Tablespoon agave

  1. Place all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously for about 10-20 seconds, or until your hands are so cold they can no longer hold the shaker.
  3. Strain and serve in a coupe glass.
  4. Garnish with blood orange slice.
  5. Enjoy!
